Fantastic! I’ve always been terrible at this- I constantly pivot to whatever the mood strikes!! It does make family life a whole lot easier when I do it!
I’ve seen food bloggers dedicate their whole website to meal plans and planning. Even having a shopping list written out for readers. Which is amazing.
I’m a second generation meal planner! I still have some of my mother’s menus in my files. I plan a week ahead but also allow flexibility if something comes up. I do a fair amount of hosting and couldn’t do it without a plan in place. I’m pretty sure I’ve passed this on to my daughters so they are third generation planners…
Thank you Lynn for the mention! Menu planning is a learned skill, that is for sure. The good thing is anyone can learn it (even the unorganized person like me) and adapt it to fit their needs.
I thing one of the best ways to start is by planing for a few days to begin with, then progress onto weeks and months worth of planning. If that's what people want to do.
My wife has a good handle on the monday to friday....and I blow things up at the weekend! Our two teenage boys drop and re-arrange plans all the time, so it's a difficult task. I put a fortnight plan over the christmas period, and try and stick it to....and to quote a well know TV cartoon....It would have worked if it wasn't for those pesky kids! (Although truth be told, I wouldn't change it!)
I do all the cooking and baking in our house and do make a weekly shopping list, which tends to be the same each week. Perhaps it’s time I stepped up my game a bit. I might surprise myself. 😆
I definitely plan out my meals for the week as in I decide 6 recipes I'll make just so I can do one big shop a week (I don't live close to a supermarket so have to plan). I always leave one free day too. A couple good links in here that I'll have to go and check out!
Thanks for the mention, Lynn. So many great tips here! I noticed yesterday (on my meal planning day 😉) how much it changes throughout the year. I get so much more creative in the fall, as the days grow shorter and I have more time to spend in the kitchen. Guess that's part of the fun!

My mother never seemed to plan our meals. Or at least, never appeared to, which is why I guess I don’t.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You’re so kind to include me!

You’re welcome.

I like the idea of having one free day a week.
